Marvin explains how he was taught to hit short pitches - the old way! This involved keeping the hands ahead of the club-face and relied on making a perfect strike as any mis-hit would undoubtedly result in a chunk or a thinned shot. He expands on this by stating that this method may still work for those who can practice every day but, that for most of us, it is a method we will struggle with. As an alternative to this, Marvin demonstrates how to use the bounce of the wedge to slide the club under the ball. To do this he moves the ball slightly forward, with the shaft straight up as opposed to having hands pressed forward.
